The communication between EUROPACE and existing external systems is varied: Individual workflows support customer specific business processes while their systems utilize different communication protocols as well as data formats. EUROPACE integrator interfaces heterogeneous system infrastructures at the customer’s site with the individual platform segments via a workflow engine that controls the handling of the respective business process. Therefore, the workflow engine is for example required to parse and transform the data, to handle authentification and authorisation of the enquiring system, to initiate communication to further systems, to manage content based routing, and finally to send transformed data to the target system.

EUROPACE integrator controls numerous generic and customised interfaces to manage the communication to customers, based on different protcols and formats such as SOAP, http, ftp and smtp. Additionally, EUROPACE integrator is able to handle various interface formats such as e.g. WSDL, Text and several proprietary XML dialects and to retain a message oriented communication.

For the customer, the complexity of integration with EUROPACE is averted as far as possible. From a EUROPACE point of view, efforts are tremendously reduced for new customers' to join the platform. With EUROPACE integrator, both sides benefit from a centralised integration technology for an efficient customer integration.

Through mature technology, EUROPACE integrator is well prepared to face increasing requirements in response times, complexity of business processes and to become a complete Business Process Management System (BPMS) that manages the interaction of different systems and allows the efficient handling of business processes across companies. In combination with the provisioning and service-oriented interfaces, in particular Web Services, EUROPACE integrator is an important element to support service oriented architectures (SOA).
