The Hanover-based AWD is one of the largest independent financial services providers in Europe. Listed on the stock exchange and a member of the Mdax since 2000, it employs around 6,000 financial advisers servicing, by the end of 2004, some 1.45 million regular customers. AWD advises private clients in the middle and upper income brackets on their wealth formation and their cash and real estate investments, as well as in the fields of precautionary financial provision, for instance for old age security.  It operates in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain and Italy, as well as in six of the nations in central and southeastern Europe. In addition, around 400 AWD specialists provide corporate old-age services for some 3,000 companies.

AWD does not develop proprietary products but, after professional analysis of third-party offerings, supplies individually tailored solutions by selecting the best of these for its clients. The independent and free selection of products and suppliers guarantees AWD the ability to offer more than 4,500 products and services to customers, chosen from some 300 banks, insurance companies, fund management companies and building societies. From this "menu", its financial advisers, employed exclusively on this task, can choose the most suitable investment and insurance offerings for individual clients.
